WHO IS NERSA?


The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) is a regulatory authority established as a juristic person in terms of Section 3 of the National Energy Regulator Act, 2004 (Act No. 40 of 2004). NERSA’s mandate is to regulate the electricity, piped-gas and petroleum pipelines industries in terms of the Electricity Regulation Act, 2006 (Act No. 4 of 2006), Gas Act, 2001 (Act No. 48 of 2001) and Petroleum Pipelines Act, 2003 (Act No. 60 of 2003).

BURSARY DESCRIPTION


NERSA is offering bursaries to students interested in pursuing a career in the energy sectors that fall within its regulatory mandate.
NERSA is offering bursaries to students who wish to study towards a Masters and Mid-PHD Degree. Bursaries are awarded for fields of study that are relevant to NERSA’s regulatory mandate; namely, the regulation of the electricity, pipedgas and petroleum pipelines industries.

BURSARIES AVAILABLE 

The bursary will be awarded to students who are studying or intend to study towards a Masters or Mid-PHD Degree. In fields that are in line with NERSA’s regulatory mandate, which includes the regulation of the electricity, pipedgas and petroleum pipelines industries.

ELIGIBILITY


Below are the minimum criteria to apply for the bursary. The applicant must:
  • be a South African citizen with a valid identity document;
  • be admitted to and be in possession of an admission letter from a South
  • African University or University of Technology that is established or
  • registered in terms of the laws of the Republic of South Africa for a
  • Masters and Mid-PHD Degree;
  • be a previously disadvantaged South African;
  • have an excellent academic record and demonstrate potential for
  • academic success;
  • not be a holder of any other bursary scheme;
  • have proven financial need.

HOW TO APPLY?

Applicants who meet the above eligibility requirements, must apply by submitting clear copies of the following documentation:

  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Full tertiary academic record of highest qualification completed (certified copy)
  • University or University of Technology acceptance letter (on institutions letterhead)
  • Dissertation topic and an abstract
  • Motivational letter explaining why you should be awarded a bursary (approximately 500 words)
  • Parents or guardians ID documents (certified copies)
  • Parents or guardians household proof of income (latest payslips if employed, affidavit if unemployed, proof of grant or pension if applicable)
Note: there is no application form to be completed for this bursary application, applicants need only submit the list of above documents to apply.
