WHO IS THE DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE AND LAND REFORM?
BURSARY DESCRIPTION
In 2021 the Department of Agriculture and Land Reform signalled that it intended awarding bursaries to students who intend furthering their studies in institutions of higher learning. The Department issued an advert for the bursary and also the application form in a PDF format.

- Bioresource Engineering (Agricultural Engineering) (BSc)
- Cartography (National Diploma or B Degree)
- Entomology (BSc)
- Food Science (BSc)
- Food Technology (National Diploma)
- Geo-Informatics (BSc or BA)
- Geographic Information Science (BSc or BA)
- Geomatics (BSc)
- Land Surveying (BSc)
- Pasture Science (BSc)
- Plant Pathology (BSc)
- Surveying (National Diploma or B Degree)
- Town and Regional Planning (National Diploma or BBE)
- Town or Urban and Regional Planning (BSc)
- Veterinary Science (BVSc)
- Viticulture and Oenology (BSc)
Agricultural fields of studies priority research projects (Adv Diploma, B Tech, BSc Hons, MSc, DTech or PhD)
ELIGIBILITY
- You must be a South African citizen
- You must be currently in Matric or have completed Matric
- You must be studying or intend on studying within one of the aforementioned fields of study
- You must be studying or intend on studying at a recognised South African tertiary institution
- You must be previously disadvantaged or impoverished
- You must from a poverty-stricken area or rural community
- Students with disabilities are encouraged to apply
- You must not be a staff member of the department
- You must aim to pursue a career within the agriculture, land reform and rural development sector
- You must have achieved a minimum result of level 6 (70 to 79%) for Mathematics and Physical Science in Matric, if studying or intend on studying within one of these fields:
- Bioresource Engineering (Agricultural Engineering) (BSc)
- Veterinary Science (BVSc)
- You must have achieved a minimum result of level 5 (60 to 69%) for Mathematics and Physical Science in Matric, if studying or intend on studying within one of these fields:
- Animal Science (BSc)
- Entomology (BSc)
- Food Science (BSc)
- Pasture Science (BSc)
- Plant Pathology (BSc)
- Viticulture and Oenology (BSc)
- You must have achieved a minimum result of level 4 (50 to 59%) for Mathematics and Physical Science in Matric, if studying or intend on studying within one of these fields:
- Food Technology (National Diploma)
- Land Surveying (BSc)
- Geomatics (BSc)
- Geo-Informatics (BSc or BA)
- Geographic Information Science (BSc or BA)
- Town or Urban and Regional Planning (BSc)
- Surveying (National Diploma or B Degree)
- Cartography (National Diploma or B Degree)
- Town and Regional Planning (National Diploma or BBE)

The following documents must be submitted along with your completed application form:
Undergraduate students:
- ID document (certified copy)
- Matric certificate or latest results if certificate is not yet available (certified copy)
- Full academic record (certified copy)
- Qualification/ certificates (certified copies)
- University acceptance letter (on tertiary letterhead)
- Parents/ Guardians ID documents (certified copies)
- Parents/ Guardians proof of income (latest palyslips if employed, proof of unemployment from Department of Labour if unemployed, SASSA confirmation letter if applicable, death certificates if applicable)
Note: if you have not yet received your Matric final results or University acceptance letter, you may apply without it and submit the outstanding documents as soon as received.
Postgraduate students:
- ID document (certified copy)
