ABOUT MPUMALAGA HEALTH DEPARTMENT


The mission of the Mpumalanga Department of Health is to improve the quality of health and well-being of all people in the province by providing a needs-based, people-centred, equitable health care delivery system through an integrated network of health care services, provided by a cadre of dedicated and well-skilled health workers.

The Department's strategic goals are to increase life expectancy; decrease maternal and child mortality; combat HIV/AIDS and decrease the burden of disease from tuberculosis; and strengthen health system effectiveness.

BURSARY DESCRIPTION

The Mpumalanga Health Department is inviting South African citizens who are residents of Mpumalanga between the ages of 18 and 36 years to apply for their 2020 Mpumalanga Nursing College intake.

If your application is successful you will be enrolled in a three-year Diploma in Nursing, starting in 2020 and will receive a monthly stipend of R4000, as well as a book allowance of R6500 per year, free accommodation and a uniform allowance.

ELIGIBILITY

If you wish to be considered you must meet ALL of the following minimum requirements:
  • Must be a South African citizen between 18 and 36 years old;
  • Be a resident of Mpumalanga;
  • Must have a Matriculation or Senior Certificate (Grade 12) passed with admission to Diploma or Degree;
  • Must have passed the following subjects:
  • English (passed with at least Level 4 for NSC, OR with D in Higher Grade or C in Standard Grade for the old Matric certificate)
  • Biology or Life Science or Physiology (with at least Level 3 OR D (HG) or C (SG))
  • Mathematics (Level 3 or E (HG) or D (SG) or Maths Literacy (Level 4 or above)
  • Any one of the following: Physical Science or Agriculture or Geography (passed Level 3 or E (HG) or D (SG) or above)
  • Must achieve an APS score 23 or higher from the six subjects with highest levels (excluding Life Orientation)
  • All certificates and addresses will be sent for verification
Certificates not registered with the South African Nursing Council, such ABET and NCV will not be considered.

Applicants with a disability will be considered only in terms of the inherent requirements of the nursing duties.

Please note that if you are successful in your application, you would be required to:

To sign an agreement with the Department of Health to work back the equal number of years spent on training.
To attend lectures for theoretical knowledge and do Work Integrated Learning in health facilities as required by the South African Nursing Council

NOTE: Each successful candidate will receive a bursary for the duration of their study in a form of monthly spend of R 4000, book allowance of R6 500 per annum, SANC regulation fee at the cost of the Department of Health, uniform allowance once per annum as determined by the DPSA and accommodation at the of the Department of Health There are no fees payable by the applicants to be admitted at the Mpumalanga College of Nursing.
