ABOUT WEST COAST DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY


The area that the West Coast District Municipality (WCDM) serves stretches from the border of Cape Town Metropole to the border of the Northern Cape. The region covers a total area of 31 099 km². Statistics South Africa (2001) estimated the population of the entire West Coast region at 282 671.

The two roads, the R27 and the N7 from Cape Town, will take you through the golden wheat fields of the Swartland, the vineyards of the Olifants River, the picturesque coastal villages of Paternoster and St Helena Bay and the peaceful atmosphere of little towns like Darling, Piketberg, Goedverwacht and Porterville. Further north, across the Piekeniers Pass, the incredible mountains of the Cederberg, famous for its rock art and the Maskam, outside Van Rhynsdorp will serve you with peace of mind.

BURSARY DESCRIPTION 

The West Coast District Municipality in partnership with the Department of Local Government: Western Cape (Provincial Treasury) will be offering four bursaries for full-time studies at accredited tertiary institutions to youth residing in the West Coast Region. 
Two Second-year students are invited to apply for a bursary for the 2018 and 2019 academic year and Two First-year students are invited to apply for a bursary for the 2019 academic year, which will be extended to a maximum of three years, provided that the candidate adheres to the bursary conditions.

The bursary is restricted to full-time study and attendance at an accredited University, University of Technology or a registered Private Higher Education institution and is eligible to individuals from historically disadvantaged societal groups or individuals with disabilities. The maximum estimated bursary amount peer annum is R60 000 per student.

ELIGIBILITY

  • South African citizen
  • Parents or guardians reside within the West Coast region
  • Intend on studying full-time within one of the aforementioned fields of study
  • Will be entering your 1st year of study in 2021
  • Been accepted/ provisionally accepted to study at an accredited University/ University of Technology in South Africa
  • From a historically disadvantaged background OR have a disability
Applicants who study full-time in the following fields at an accredited University, University of
Technology or a registered Private Higher Education institution will be considered. Applicants studying towards a National Diploma (NQF6) or Degree (NQF6/NQF7) in field mentioned above.

Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed application form:
  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Matric certificate/ Matric final results if you have not yet received your certificate (certified copy)
  • Proof of tertiary provisional acceptance (on tertiary letterhead)
  • Proof of tertiary registration fees (on tertiary letterhead)
  • Proof of permanent residential address
  • Parents/ guardians ID documents (certified copies)
  • Parents/ guardians proof of household income (3 latest payslips if employed: certified copies/ sworn affidavits if unemployed)
  • Affidavit of guardianship if not living with parents
  • ID documents of other people dependent on family income (certified copies)
  • Motivational letter including: what motivates you studying towards your chosen field, why you believe you should be awarded the bursary (max 1000 words, in your own handwriting on a separate piece of paper)
