WHO IS SERITI COAL?

Seriti Coal is in the process of establishing a sustainable legacy within the communities it operates, and the coal mining industry as a whole. 10% of both Seriti Coal and New Largo Coal is owned by broad-based structures, which include employee and community trusts.

During our maiden year, after the successful acquisition of previously owned Anglo-American assets, Seriti Coal made significant strides and continues to provide direct employment to more than 3558 employees, including on site management and 3000 contractors. Seriti Coal is also committed to providing 24mtpa of thermal coal to Eskom produced from Kriel, New Denmark and New Vaal Collieries respectively.

The company established a bursary scheme that is sponsoring 10 top students with an interest in studying disciplines within the mining industry. This scheme considers students from our host communities, but extend to the general public, employees and their children.

BURSARY DESCRIPTION

Seriti Coal offers a world-class graduate programme to graduates in various mining related disciplines. The Professional in Training (PIT) receives a tailor-made programme with development actions to complete. The graduates are appointed on a fixed term basis to complete the programme and obtain a government ticket where applicable.

BURSARIES AVAILABLE 

Seriti will be awarding bursaries to deserving and qualifying students, in ANY field of study, towards an undergraduate degree or diploma at any accreditted institution of higher learning in South Africa.

Shortlisted applicants will be contacted – if you have not received any feedback within 30 days of the closing date, please regard your application as unsuccessful.

ELIGIBILITY

Bursary applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

• South African citizen
• Completed Matric OR currently in Matric
• Studying or intend on studying full time towards an undergraduate degree or diploma
• Studying or intend on studying at a recognised tertiary institution in South Africa
• Achieved a minimum overall average of 60%

SOUTH32 BURSARIES SOUTH AFRICA 2022-2023

WHO IS SOUTH 32?

South32 produce bauxite, alumina, aluminium, metallurgical coal, manganese, nickel, silver, lead and zinc in Australia, Southern Africa and South America. They also own a highgrade zinc, lead and silver development option in North America and have partnered with several junior explorers with a bias to base metals.

Whether it’s for use in infrastructure, energy generation, consumables or vehicles, South32 believe the extraction and processing of minerals and metals can be done in a responsible way.

SOUTH 32 BURSARY DESCRIPTION 

South 32 is inviting individuals who are interested in furthering their studies at institutions of higher learning in South Africa. Preference will be given to applicants residing within the King Cetshwayo District area. 

The individuals interested in this bursary must have excellent academic track record.

South 32 are making available a number bursaries to deserving students, within the following Mining related fields of study (Degree or Diploma):

• Mine Surveying
• Extractive Metallurgy
• Geology
• Environmental Sciences

ELIGIBILITY 

• Applicant must be South African citizen
• Applicants must have completed Matric OR currently in Matric
• Applicants must be studying or intend on studying within one of the aforementioned fields of study
• Applicants must be studying or intend on studying full time at an accredited University or University of Technology in South Africa
• Preference will be given to applicants from designated groups in the Northern Cape
