WHO IS THE DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE AND FISHERIES?


The Department: Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) was disestablished in June 2019. The agriculture function was incorporated into the new Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development (DALRRD), while the forestry and fisheries functions were incorporated into the new Department of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries (DEFF). Information displayed here is historical information as it existed before the mergers.

The mission of the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) is to advance food security and agrarian transformation in the agricultural sector through innovative, inclusive and sustainable policies and programmes.

The Department's strategic goals are: increased profitable production of food, fibre and timber products by all categories of producers; sustained management of natural resources; effective national regulatory services and risk management systems; a transformed and united sector; increased contribution of the sector to economic growth and development; and effective and efficient governance.

BURSARY DESCRIPTION


The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries intends awarding comprehensive bursaries to qualifying applicants pursuing and/ or intending to further their studies in critical scarce skills in agriculture, forestry and fisheries sectors for the 2020 academic year. 

The bursary will cover tuition, accommodation, books, meals and monthly allowance. The bursary awards target the previously disadvantaged and impoverished persons from poverty stricken and deep rural communities. Females and people with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

  • Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc.)

  • B.Sc. Plant Pathology 
  • B.Sc. Agric Soil Science 
  • B.Sc. Agric Agronomy 
  • B.Sc. Forestry and Wood Science

ELIGIBILITY 


Applicants must be South African citizens. 
Applicants must complete relevant bursary application forms. 
Applicants must be in Matric or completed Matric
Applicant must be accepted to study at an accredited institution of higher learning in South Africa
Applicants must have excellent academic records
